Hey Everyone,

Its Nick writing yet again! Sorry its been a while since the last blog, but if you've been to the site recently, you have already noticed that we have begun posting episodes from Season 2. As I write this, we have the first four episodes from our second season right here for your viewing pleasure. I'm sure the first thing you'll notice is that the picture for Season 2 is much more clear than the first season. Shooting in HD definitely has some advantages!

In addition to the episodes, you'll notice that we have posted some cast info for actors that you may not be familiar with. Obviously, they are a part of our Season 2 cast, so hang in there and you'll meet them soon!

We'll be doing some appearances in the near future. Next month, we'll be at the Los Angeles Weekend of Horrors show promoting Goth Girl. Then in July, we are going to be at the San Diego Comic-Con, but I'm not sure in what capacity just yet. Keep it locked on here and I will keep you posted on more info as we know it.

The Season 1 DVD's are still coming. We had a couple of glitches in the process, but they will be available for purchase soon with all kinds of bonus material, plus the eight episodes you are all already familiar with.

We are still hard at work on the Goth Girl feature film, but obviously, the script must be perfect for people to want to invest in it. We will keep you posted on that as it develops.

Again, thanks to all of you for watching! We appreciate you giving us your time to watch a 17 year old Gothic teen go berzerk on her friends, family, and neighbors!

Thanks again,
Nick

Hey Everyone,

Its Nick writing again and its been a while since you have heard from me, so here's the latest on Goth Girl. I'm sure that many of you have noticed we didn't get to post any of the Season 2 episodes before Christmas. Unfortunately, we had some glitches with the Season 1 DVD's that had needed our full attention. We figured that it would be better to completely finish the first season before moving on to the second.

Starting this week, we will begin working on editing Season 2. In the first season, we posted the episodes fast, but don't be shocked if we take a little more time to work on the second set. The second season was shot in HD, so it will look better, but also requires a little more out of the editing process. In the end, I think you will all agree that it was worth it, though.

You'll be meeting some fun new characters along the way. Once again, I had the benefit of working with a fantastic cast and crew this season. We had a great time filming these new episodes and I think you will enjoy these as much as Season 1, if not moreso.

Once we finish posting all of Season 2, we will be doing some promotion at various events this year. Keep checking the events page for all the information on where we'll be in 2010. Also, we are going to start working on a feature length Goth Girl film. I can't really say too much about that right now other than to tell you that part of it will take place in Europe. You can only imagine what havoc Selena will wreak over there!

2009 brought some humorous incidents for us that I would like to share with you really fast. We were approached by a website that wanted to pay us to post the show on there. It all sounded great except they expected us to post 3-5 times a week! Then it hit us- these people thought that Goth Girl was a real blog! They think Selena is a real girl doing her own blog! Naturally, we couldn't be a part of the website and thus, no Goth Girl for their site, but we all took it as a great compliment.

Its not the first time people have thought Selena was a real person. If you find us on YouTube, you'll read some of the comments and notice some people think the same thing. I think we definitely did our job if you can't tell the fiction from reality!

Ultimately, though, I want to continue to thank you the fans for all of your support! Without you guys, we wouldn't be able to continue doing the show, so a huge THANK YOU! We're having a lot of fun with this and we hope that you are too. If we're in your town doing promotions for the show, be sure to come by and say hello! Trust me when I say that we really appreciate all of you!

That about wraps up everything that I have to say for now. Look for some new Goth Girl content real soon. Also, I will let all of you know when the DVD's for Season 1 will be available for purchase and yes, you can get signed copies from the cast if you request it!

All the best,
Nick

Hey Everyone,

Nick here again! Great news! We just finished shooting Season 2 and I can't wait for all of you to see it! We have some really crazy things going on in these new episodes. If you thought we were over the top in Season one, wait until you see what we did in Season two!

We brought back most of your favorite characters from the first season and I think you'll see that there's more backstory and expansion on all of them. Selena has grown up a bit and has certainly learned a thing or two, but if any of you think I mellowed her out at all, you have another thing coming! I won't divulge any of the story lines, but suffice to say that Selena has much bigger fight scenes that end in massive chaos. She still manipulates everyone around her quite effectively and has new victims to terrorize, as well.

Also, some of the characters will start exploring their sexuality, which, in Selena's world, can only end in disaster. We're hoping to have the first episode posted by Christmas, so keep checking back here for updates.

With 2010 around the corner, we'll also be out doing some promotion on the show. New York is a possibility in the spring, Los Angeles is looking good in May, and San Diego in July. Keep checking the events page for further info and thanks to all who have supported and watched the show!

Hey Everyone,

It's Nick writing again and if you don't have any plans for Halloween weekend this year and you've got a few bucks to burn, come on out to Las Vegas! The Palms hotel is hosting Fangoria magazine's inaugural Trinity of Terrors convention on Friday, October 30th; Saturday, October 31st; & Sunday, November 1st. Mean Scene Productions will have a table in the dealers room hosting the cast & crew of Goth Girl!

Come out and meet Selena Ravenvox herself as played by the multi-talented Vera VanGuard. She'll be on hand all three days to sign autographs, take pictures, and hurl insults (okay, maybe not the insults...). On Saturday, she'll be joined by Mister Marco, Laura Renee James, and Nathan Pata who play Dad, Mom, and Vlad respectively. I'll be floating around too if you want to ask any production questions, hurl insults at me, or offer me a new project- ha ha! There will be tons of celebs on hand including Bruce Campbell, Lance Henriksen, Malcolm McDowell, and a host of others. Plus, there's a concert with Rob Zombie on the 30th and Slipknot on Halloween night at the same venue! You can get all of the info at www.trinityofterrors.com.

Shooting on Season 2 of Goth Girl will take place in November. Almost the entire cast from Season 1 will be returning as well as a few new faces. I am pleased to announce that we have just cast Lois Gerace as The Shrink and Cosmo Tayson as Mortalis, a fellow Goth who will have a very special moment with Selena- or will he? You'll have to tune in and find out!

If anyone in the Los Angeles area wants to be an extra in Season 2, then contact Minion #1 on our events page of the website. Be sure to include a head shot and resume if you have one- if not, a picture and pleasant letter kissing our Minion's butt to get in on the shoot! Don't worry, it's Hollywood- ass kissing is quite normal in these parts! Ha-ha, just kidding! Just send your contact info and we'll use you on the shoot!

Again, thanks to everyone for supporting our show for Season 1! If you're in Vegas this weekend, don't be shy! Come up to the booth and introduce yourself, get some free swag, or just stare at us blankly. We're looking forward to meeting all of you. For those that can't make it, we'll see you for Season 2!

All the best,
Nick

Hey everyone,

It's Nick a-gain!!! Just dropping in another note to let everyone know that all eight of the episodes for Season one are now posted on the site! You can watch every (un)glorious minute of Selena and the way that she deals with her world! Soon, you'll be able to purchase the entire Season on DVD along with some bonus features that you won't be able to find anywhere else.

I have to admit that before we even posted the first episode, I was wondering if anyone would even watch the show outside of cast and crew. Yet, the numbers don't lie and so many more of you than I ever expected tuned in and watched the shows! So again, a HUGE thank you to everyone that has watched and supported Season one!

It just goes to show that as long as you have something remotely entertaining to watch, you will find an audience if you prevail long enough. Obviously if you're filming yourself painting a wall, it may be a little more difficult to find an audience. So I guess what I'm trying to say is don't let anything or anyone stand in the way of your dreams. If anyone is telling you not to do something or that you can't, then its all the more reason that you should (unless it's illegal!).

Moving on to Season two, production will be in November. We'll take a little more time in post on these episodes. With Season one, we kind of banged everything together to get something out there. Now, we'll take a little more time to dot the i's and cross the t's.

First off, I'd like to announce that we have cast a wonderful actress, who also happens to have a singing career. Her name is Alex Cartana-Marks and she will be playing the role of Malicia in Season two. Malicia will officially be Selena's arch-nemesis, so you can bet that sparks and fists will be flying between these two! You'll also be meeting some other new characters this coming season, so as soon as they are cast, you'll read it right here!

If anyone in the Los Angeles area wants to be an extra in Season two (or possibly have a speaking part), then contact Minion #1 on the events page of our website and be sure to attach your headshot and resume.

At the end of this month, we'll be promoting Goth Girl at the Fangoria Magazine Trinity of Terrors Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. Goth Girl will have its own table where you'll be able to meet Vera VanGuard aka Selena herself, along with Mister Marco (Dad), and myself. Feel free to come up and ask questions, take pictures with the cast, get some free swag, and enjoy the show. Other cast members may be appearing, so we'll post it for you on the events page as soon as we know for sure.

The Convention is on Friday, October 30th; Saturday, October 31st; and Sunday, November 1st. It takes place at The Palms hotel and you can find all of the information at www.trinityofterrors.com. Some great celebs will be in attendance- you can meet Bruce Campbell from the Evil Dead films, George Romero- director of all of your favorite zombie flicks, Roger Corman- the godfather of all B-movies, Lance Henriksen- Bishop from the Aliens franchise, Malcolm McDowell from A Clockwork Orange & so many other films, and cult director John Waters just to name a few! Come to Vegas and have a blast!

So again, A big THANK YOU for all of your support! Hope to meet a lot of you in Las Vegas! For the rest of you, see you for Season two!!!

09/24/09

Hey Everyone,

Nick Griffo here writing again and I just wanted to start out by thanking everyone for so many views of the first five episodes of Goth Girl! Thank you for your support! Goth Girl is far exceeding anything that I was expecting and we couldn't have done it without everyone of you watching and supporting our show!

I am currently hard at work writing the episodes to Season 2.. It looks like we're going to expand to ten episodes next season. While not divulging any of the plotlines to Season 2, I can tell you that Selena has certainly done some growing up due to events that occur in Season 1. The new season will start with a much darker and manipulative Selena than you are seeing in this season. You don't have to worry, though, as she still has her quick wit and sharp tongue. Stay tuned for more about Season 2.

Tonight we'll be posting episode #6 which will feature another classic Dad/Selena lecture in regards to her beating of Erica's boyfriend, Dan in the last episode. Selena's definitely on top of her game in this one! I'm sure that many of you have noticed by now that Selena's parents are dysfunctional, but they truly love her to the best of their ability. As a seventeen year old rebellious teen, its her job to challenge her parents and even go as far as to perceive that they hate her. Perhaps some of you will see your parents in the Mom & Dad characters or maybe you may even identify with Selena (whether you want to admit it or not). Of course, I have exaggerated her behavior way beyond what is acceptable, but that's why this is called entertainment. Lets face it, if all I had Selena do is smoke cigarettes and drink coffee, this would be a very boring show, right?

Speaking of which, I had one Gothic gentleman who runs a website tell us in so many words that he didn't really identify with Selena because she has all of the stereotypes of Gothic people, but doesn't accurately represent them. He was hoping we could dispel some of the stereotypes with future episodes. As much as I am against feeding into people's ignorance about a subject, I never designed Selena or this show as a tool to accurately portray Gothic people. Selena is designed strictly for entertainment purposes and I hope to hell there really isn't anyone on the planet like her! At the same time, making a politically correct Selena to accurately represent the Gothic community doesn't serve the entertainment value of our show. So while I respect this gentleman's opinions, Selena will not be changing to anything close to being politically correct as long as I'm writing her.

Also, there's a chance we may be doing some promotion in the month of October where you'll be able to come out and meet the cast, ask questions, take some pictures, etc. We'll post it here on the website first, so keep checking back with us to find out all of the details!

We're also going to put out a DVD that will have all eight episodes of Season 1 on it, as well as some great extras. I'll talk more about that in future blogs.

So again, a gigantic THANK YOU to all of you who support Goth Girl and everyone involved! More to come soon!

Nick

OLDER BLOGS

Hey Everyone...

My name is Nick Griffo and I'm the writer & director of "Goth Girl". First, I want to say thank you for stopping in to read this. I have this love/hate thing with blogging. The last thing I want to read about is somebody talking about the dinner they just ordered or where they're on the way to hang out. My first reaction is who gives a fuck?!!! So, I promise to only blog about Goth Girl and related topics. With that said...

The idea of Goth Girl came from our Editor, Malaki Keller. He mentioned that we should do a television show about Goth people, but one of my ex-girlfriends is Goth, so I decided to take the ball and run with it. Selena is based on what I thought my ex was like as a teenager based on her behavior as an adult- exaggerated, of course.

Naturally Gothic people (like all people) have evolved over time, so I had to make some adjustments to reflect the Goths of today, while making Selena extremely emo coupled with anger management issues. So, when it came to casting Selena, it was really important to find the right actress who could capture the essence of who Selena is on every level.

I thought I had a better chance of surviving a swan dive into a swimming pool filled with concrete than finding someone to pull off Selena exactly as I envisioned her. Enter Vera VanGuard, who not only encompasses Selena, but I am convinced that I couldn't have found an A-list actress to pull this off like Vera does. So when you're watching the episodes, keep in mind that Selena is 50% my creation and 50% Vera's!!!

Episode 1 is now up for everyone to view. We used this episode to introduce all of you to Selena and give you a feel what the series is all about.. You immediately get to see how she views the world through what I would call shit-tinted glasses. While her father may be a little on the dysfunctional side, you'll see that Selena paints everything into a much darker scenario very quickly.

Hope you all enjoy it and tune back in for Episode #2, which should be up around the middle of the week. We'll be posting a total of eight episodes, which we're calling Season 1. If you want to see a season 2, then by all means, let us know, as we're all brimming with ideas to bring you more (mis)adventures from our girl! Also, next year we'll be doing a few promotions where you'll be able to meet the cast and ask any questions that you may have. Keep checking the website for more info on that.

Nick

Hey everyone, its Nick Griffo writing again. This week we actually posted episodes 2, 3, & 4. In my opinion, the episodes get progressively better, but I really have a soft spot for episode #4. I wanted to paint this extreme scenario that unfolds right in the middle of Selena's bedroom and, like all good fiction, this story had a basis in reality.

I was walking out of the post office in Burbank one day last year and I hear this woman's shrill screaming. When I turned around to see what all the commotion was, I see a Volkswagon bug slowly driving up the street with a couple having a psychotic screaming match. The girl was driving and had both hands firmly gripping the steering wheel while driving in her below-the-speed-limit straight line. The guy was riding shotgun, redfaced, and running his hands through his hair repeatedly.

Being that Selena is extremely emo, I figured that I would make Desiree not only emo, but displaying bipolar behavior, as well. Thus, the extreme mood swings between happiness to extreme misery back to happiness with very little rhyme or reason. I had a good conversation with the actress who played Desiree, her name is Jocelyn Schutte, and she really understood the extreme levels that I wanted this character to go through. Darth Schuhe, who plays her boyfriend Sadisto, was also not only a trooper, as we put him through some hell, but really brought a creepy, almost slimey feel to Sadisto.

I wanted everyone to get the feeling that when Desiree is not around, Sadisto is always trying to pick up women or that he gets off on making obscene phone calls while he's away from her. Without having to bring the character down visually, I feel that Darth just gave Sadisto that disturbing demeanor. For those of you who really enjoy these characters, look for them to reappear in episode #8!

Episode #2 introduces everyone to more of Selena's family. There is always that story about the middle child in a family who feels neglected- Selena being the middle child. While her parents are dysfunctional, its easy to see that Selena certainly pushes everyone's buttons to make matters worse.

While I have created Selena's actions and reactions to the scenarios that she's in, I have not yet created the psyche behind why Selena goes to these extreme behaviors. I haven't decided yet whether she's doing it for attention, for revenge, or because she's just a snotty little bitch with a serious attitude problem. I kind of like the last scenario best, but perhaps I'll get into that a bit with season 2.

We will be posting episode #5 later this week, so hopefully you'll all tune in to check it out. I can honestly tell you that episode #5 is a very extreme and physical episode involving Selena and her behavior. The best way that I can set this up is like this...

How many times have you been sitting in your home when somebody starts honking their car horn and it doesn't stop? We've all been there, right? At first its annoying, but after a while it really starts to get under your skin. Tune in and watch how Selena handles it. That's all I'm going to say about it for now!

A special thank you to all of you who have tuned in to watch our show so far! We are actually on www.blip.tv popular videos front page as I write this. I am very grateful for your support and in return, we will keep churning out the best Goth Girl episodes that we can create!

Again, keep watching the site for special promo events where you can meet the cast. It will be posted here first!

And now a blog from Mister Marco "Goth Dad":

Goth Girl is smack in the middle of the tortuous road of adolescence, a – pardon the expression—“twilight” moment in development where the transition to adulthood is short of complete, but childhood has been left far behind.

Adolescence is accompanied by biological transformations, a redefinition of financial status, and an upheaval of social changes. Infancy and childhood are periods of mental programming and role-playing. The challenge of adolescence is to fit the personality one has developed into the social mosaic.

Touring a high school during lunchtime (I don’t actually recommend that you do this), you see the various cliques: muscle-heads, geeks, nerds, princesses, brainiacs, sluts, homelies, bullies, artists, gangstas, scuzzballs, etc., etc. How these various cliques click together is the foundation of community, and, to a large extent, determines life choices.

Some individuals find it difficult to connect to the mosaic. They adopt a strong bonding that is based on stark contrast to all other elements of society. They develop modes of expression that clearly mark them as non-conformists to the rest of society. The irony is that their modes of expression become extremely conformist. Goth people are an extreme example of this. Even a small deviation from the accepted rules of behavior might cause you to have your Goth privileges revoked.

Now, GothDad is from a different time. Being, oh say, 50, he would have been brought up by parents who lived during the depression. This stamp is rooted deeply in his personality. His own experience includes the emergence of the civil rights movement, the atrocities of the Vietnam war, the uncertainty of living during the Cold War, and sweeping societal changes of the 60s. But he now lives in a time of great technological advancement, in the shadow of threats of global terrorism, and is witness to the decline of the mighty American empire.

All these influences come to bear on his encounters with his daughter. In a sense, GothDad is wise, and understands where his daughter is coming from, but he frames it through the spectacles of his own life experience. His underlying belief is that the world has been frozen in time since he was an adolescent, and that what applied to his life is directly transferrable to his daughter’s situation.

This is where all his good intentions and wisdom fall apart. It’s like trying to get an 8-track tape to work with your iPod. If he spent more time getting to understand his daughter and less time trying to direct her behavior, he might be able to exercise a more positive influence on his daughter.

Easier said than done!

As things stand, his inability to cope with his parenting challenge, will be seen by Goth Girl as an unwillingness to act. His futile attempts at force-fitting his parenting models to his daughters plight will impress Goth Girl as uncaring. In the face of his parenting failures, his surrender will be taken as confirmation that he has no love for her.

And the worst of it is that the emptiness that Goth Girl will experience, will linger for long afterwards. Drugs, sex, bratty kids running around the trailer home, or even tens of thousands of dollars in psychotherapy will be insufficient to fill the hole in her heart where her father’s love should have been.

That’s what’s going through GothDad’s mind.
